Mudam, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Luxembourg, is looking for a Building Manager. Opened in 2006 by renowned Sino-American architect Ieoh Ming Pei, Mudam offers a highly enriching and stimulating work environment. Our site is a unique place dedicated to art and culture. We are looking for a committed building manager who shares our vision and, through their knowledge and experience, will ensure that Mudam remains in excellent condition in all aspects, whether technical, infrastructural, or organizational. A certain affinity with the cultural sector, particularly contemporary art, would be an advantage.


Your Mission

You will be an operational and strategic partner within the Finance and Administration team, working closely with management on all matters concerning building operations, HVAC, sustainability, environmental management, and safety within the museum. You will lead all internal services, including the development of technical services, renovation projects, the security center, cleaning operations, and other support services. You will collaborate closely with other museum departments to facilitate and enhance the development of the artistic program. As Building Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the security of the museum building and its surrounding site. You will also develop, implement, and monitor Health & Safety procedures and policies, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and artworks. The Building Manager plays a pivotal role to ensure and accomplish Mudam’s values and missions, therefore in this role, you will work closely with the public building administration.


Your main responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the maintenance, security, and conservation of the buildings housing the collections and exhibitions.
  • Planning and overseeing routine repair, renovation, refurbishment, and compliance works in accordance with museum standards (HVAC, humidity control, fire safety, accessibility, etc.) and assure that all systems are optimized and efficient.
  • Manage the budget and contracts related to the building (maintenance, insurance, etc.). Manage calls for tenders in accordance with the museum's internal regulations and public procurement procedures. Coordinating technical interventions while ensuring the preservation of artworks and the comfort of visitors, always in direct communication with the regisseurs in charge of the projects.
  • Conducting daily reviews of publicly accessible areas and work/storage spaces.
  • Managing relationships with external service providers (maintenance companies, contractors, cleaning, security) and overseeing public tenders related to the building.
  • Supervising the cleaning of premises and the upkeep of green spaces.
  • Collaborate closely with the production, conservation, mediation, and exhibition teams to adapt the spaces for temporary and permanent exhibitions. Ensuring compliance with environmental standards and optimizing energy efficiency in the building.
  • Develop and monitor the budget allocated to building maintenance, as well as related investments (furniture and others) and real estate investments. Developing a preventive maintenance strategy to anticipate technical needs and ensure the long-term sustainability of infrastructure.

Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and implementing emergency response plans for incidents such as fires, floods, and other disasters. This includes establishing protocols and swift response strategies to mitigate risks, protect people and assets, and ensure operational continuity in the face of unexpected emergencies.


Your Profile

We are looking for a dynamic and hands-on individual who is passionate about maintaining the building in optimal condition. With excellent organizational skills, our future Building Manager will demonstrate a true team spirit and excellent communication abilities. As a candidate, you will recognize yourself in this description and possess the following qualifications:

  • You hold a higher education degree in building management, engineering, architecture, or equivalent.
  • You have at least 5 years of successful experience managing complex buildings, ideally in a cultural, museum, or institutional environment.
  • You possess in-depth knowledge of safety standards, accessibility regulations, hygiene protocols, and building management techniques, ensuring the building’s safety and full compliance with applicable regulations.
  • You are skilled in building technologies (HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, energy management) and can lead construction projects.
  • You have experience managing internal teams and coordinating external contractors.
  • Knowledge of public procurement procedures in Luxembourg is an asset.
  • A qualification as a designated building manager will be considered an asset.You are thorough and autonomous, with a strong sense of priorities, excellent organizational skills, and effective time management abilities to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • You are discreet and have a high level of sensitivity to the protection of artworks and respect for the public.
  • Proficiency in French (C1 minimum) is required, with knowledge of German and English (ideally B2 level). Knowledge of Luxembourgish is an advantage.
