Sam Baron

Sam Baron (1976) is a designer who is interested in the cultural dimension inherent in objects, whether it be the process of craft fabrication or historical formal references. He deploys a poetic landscape composed of varnished ceramic elements through the mural installation In Black. This piece was inspired by traditional Portuguese glazed ceramic production, picking up on vernacular forms inspired by nature. He presents these cheap popular objects in a new light by depriving them of their realistic painted decor. In accordance with his previous work, he pays homage to an existing repertoire while offering a contemporary functionality and thus affirms his position when faced with contemporary production that is so excessive and extravagant in an era when everything has already been produced.
