Medieval historian and Professor at the University of Luxembourg, Michel Margue, delivers a lecture on the layered history and architecture of Vianden Castle in relation to the work of Wim Delvoye.

In this lecture, Michel Margue, explores the history and architecture of Vianden Castle. Particular attention is given to the castle’s two-level chapel, where symbolic motifs from ancient Christian heritage intertwine with medieval architecture. Built in the 12th century and later expanded under the House of Orange-Nassau, the castle still bears marks of this period, although the Orange-Nassau princes themselves were rarely present and governed largely through local administrators.

Professor Michel Margue draws parallels between these historical layers and the artistic practice of Wim Delvoye. In works such as the Dutch Gas-Cans, Delvoye juxtaposes Delft Blue decorative motifs with contemporary industrial objects, creating encounters between past and present.

The lecture will be accompanied by a concert performed by the cello duo Gabriel Pereira and Benjamin Crnovrsanin, both students at the Conservatoire du Nord.
