Collections Intern

Mudam, The Museum of Contemporary Art of Luxembourg, is offering a current student pursuing studies in fields related to art, art history, cultural sciences, curatorial studies, or an equivalent programme, the opportunity to gain experience in a professional environment by joining the Collection team, which is part of the artistic department. Working alongside the curator/head of collection, the curator/collection officer and the collection registrar, you will be part of the team responsible for conservation, dissemination and research on the collection within one of Europe’s most dynamic contemporary art museums.
Your Mission
Under the supervision of the curator/collection officer, you will be closely involved in collection management. You will collaborate with the Registrarial, Technical and Public Engagement teams, as well as with other museum departments and external contacts, including artists and galleries.
This internship will offer you the opportunity to deepen your practical and theoretical knowledge of contemporary art and the role of conservation in a contemporary art museum. You will be actively involved in the conservation of the collection and the preparation of presentations scheduled for 2025–2026. You will work in a context that facilitates learning and exchange, providing valuable professional experience for a career in the museum field.
Your tasks will include:
- Verification and enhancement of documentation related to artists and works in the collection through research and digital and physical archiving.
- Liaising with artists, institutions wishing to borrow works from the collection, galleries, restorers and other providers.
- Administrative follow-up on loans.
- Assisting in the conservation of works (preventive and curative restoration).
- Contributing to the image library of the collection: verifying captions and photo credits, assessing image quality, digital archiving.
- Processing internal and external requests concerning images of works from the collection.
- Preparing documents and updating information on the collection: website, paper inventory, exhibition history, activity reports, presentations to the scientific committee and board of directors, etc.
- Participating in the creation of conservation documents (condition reports, technical sheets, etc.)
- Preparing for and participating in meetings with various museum departments and teams.
- Assisting with the administrative tasks of the Collection Department.
Your Profile
Candidates should be eager to learn with a positive and enthusiastic attitude and be ready to provide substantial work, with great attention to detail. Additionally, they should demonstrate their ambition to work in the artistic field and explain how this experience will help them achieve their professional goals.
- Master’s student in Art History or Humanities
- Interested in contemporary art and culture in general
- Proficient in French and English (teamwork is conducted in French)
- Proficient in digital tools
- Excellent writing skills
- Organised, meticulous, and curious
- Attentive to detail
- A work-study agreement is essential
