red bridge project

Visual arts in the Philharmonie, installations at Mudam and performances at Grand Théâtre: three of Luxembourg’s major cultural institutions continue their innovative red bridge project building bridges, both geographically and artistically, between music, dance, performance, film and visual arts. After the successful first edition with the Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, for 20-21 the focus is on South African artist William Kentridge.

Kentridge is widely regarded as one of the most important artists of today. Over the past three decades, he has created a unique œuvre that spans many different disciplines from drawing, film and sculpture to performance, theatre and opera. red bridge project invites the audience to discover and explore his multifaceted work in a programme ranging from a solo exhibition and a new opera production to performances by the artist himself.

William Kentridge (born Johannesburg, South Africa, 1955) is internationally acclaimed for his drawings, films, theatre and opera productions.
His method combines drawing, writing, film, performance, music, theatre, and collaborative practices to create works of art that are grounded in politics, science, literature and history, all the while maintaining a space for contradiction and uncertainty.

Kentridge’s work has been seen in museums and galleries around the world since the 1990s. He is the recipient of honorary doctorates from several universities including Yale and the University of London and of numerous awards and honours in recognition of his work.
