Inspired by Edith Dekyndt’s Provisory Object, carillonneur Anna Kasprzycka presents a new carillon concert as part of Dodeka.

Responding to the work’s exploration of ephemerality, the evening brings together music composed by women with Kasprzycka’s own improvisations.

Drawing on the fleeting nature of bells, the concert considers sound itself as a provisional object.

After the concert, Anna Kasprzycka invites audiences to discover the carillon of the Basilica of Echternach, offering an opportunity to encounter the instrument and its architecture up close.

Biography

Anna Kasprzycka is a Polish-Luxembourgish carillonneur. She is the carillonneur at the Parochialkirche in Berlin. She regularly performs on the carillon of the Basilica of Echternach — the only carillon in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg — as part of the monthly KLACKESPILL & MOART concerts, as well as in occasional performances. Her repertoire ranges from medieval to contemporary music. She has given world premieres of numerous works by contemporary artists and composers, including Bradley, Ekomane, Marcoll, Stulgińska, Nahorny and Zimmermann. Anna holds a degree in Music Theory from the Academy of Music in Gdańsk. She studied carillon in Gdańsk (Poland), Leuven and Mechelen (Belgium), and pursued additional training in Leuven, Amersfoort and Middelburg. In 2014, she graduated summa cum laude from the Royal Carillon School “Jeff Denyn” in Mechelen. In 2017, Anna Kasprzycka was a Carillon Fellow at Bok Tower Gardens in Florida. She has performed carillon concerts on major instruments throughout Europe and, among others, in the United States. Together with Katarzyna Czubek (recorder), she forms the duo Wood & Bronze. She also performs with wind instruments and electronics, as well as in “four hands, four feet” formats. She won second prize at the 2014 Carillon Competition in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux (France) and third prize at the 2013 International Duet Carillon Contest in Zwolle (Netherlands).
