Head of Learning & Public Programme

Mudam, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Luxembourg, is looking for a Head of Learning & Public Programme

Your Role
Working within the artistic and content department, you will actively contribute to the development of the museum as a leading cultural institution in Luxembourg and in Europe. Your mission is to design and implement educational and public programmes related to the museum’s temporary exhibitions and collection for a very diverse public. Through these programmes, you will contribute to making the museum a place of exchange, openness and dialogue around the issues of our contemporary society such as, for example, diversity, climate change or the impact of digital technologies. In this context, you will implement partnerships and collaborations in order to propose innovative actions within the museum and even outside its walls. You will act in a cross-functional manner and work closely with all of the museum’s departments on issues related to the experience of our current and future visitors.

Your main responsibilities are as follows

Audience Development and Loyalty:

  • Identifying the needs of the museum’s current and future audiences for the development of inclusive programmes.
  • Openness to external initiatives and the development of participatory projects
  • Development of a programme to enhance the museum’s appeal and accessibility to a wide range of audiences (children, teens, adults, seniors, schools & extracurricular groups, people with special needs)
  • Implementation and maintenance of partnerships with cultural institutions, artists, associations, community groups or educational and professional development groups
  • Defining, implementing and tracking markers to evaluate the impact of the actions carried out with a view toward continuous improvement

Design and implementation of the educational programme:

  • Development, implementation and evaluation of mediation activities related to exhibitions, performances and the collection
  • Development, implementation and evaluation of educational programmes (lecture series, workshops, training courses, etc.)
  • Occasionally leading workshops or guided tours

Management

  • Management of the museum’s team of mediators
  • Supervision and monitoring of external mediators and teachers
  • Management of budgets
  • Diversification of funding sources for projects related to public service in collaboration with the sponsorship and partnerships team
  • Communication, involvement and mediation with and between the various employees of the museum

Qualifications
We are looking for an open-minded and enthusiastic individual who wants to contribute to making culture, and particularly contemporary art, accessible to a large public. As a candidate, you will recognise yourself in this description and meet the following qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role within an institution
  • Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Fine Arts, Art History or Cultural Mediation
  • Good knowledge of contemporary art
  • Very good interpersonal skills with a diverse public
  • Proven experience in managing and supervising a team
  • Leadership and excellent listening, communication and teamwork skills
  • Curiosity, open-mindedness, sense of humour and enthusiasm
  • Ability to innovate and challenge the status quo
  • Proven ability to create innovative and dynamic cultural programmes
  • Proficiency of project management techniques
  • Proficiency of office softwares
  • Fluency in French and English or German. Fluency in Luxembourgish and any other language is a plus
  • Flexible working hours, availability in the evening and on weekends as needed.
