The 11th grade G class of the Schengen Lyzeum, in close collaboration with the pedagogical department at Mudam, has spent the second semester of the 2021-2022 school year reflecting on the theme of ‘borders'. These questions are all the more relevant in Schengen, where borders seem to be disappearing but remain impassable lines for some. The students present the very personal results of this project in the Mudam Studio during the closing weekend of the Zoe Leonard. Al río / To the River exhibition. You can also join the ‘Regards croisés’ visits with your school class, during which the students take a very personal look at the exhibition and share their thoughts on the theme of borders.

Mudam invites photographer Carole Melchior to lead a multi-disciplinary workshop with secondary school photography students based around the Al río / To the River exhibition by artist Zoe Leonard. The workshop will culminate in an exhibition at Mudam. How to develop a thought-provoking photography project that allows us to imagine areas that bring people together? We will approach this question in the style of an investigation. We will carefully observe different places, urban or rural, the speciesfound there (plants, animals, humans), their interactions, their entanglements, their space for co-cultivation. Through visual notes gleaned over the course of the day, we will rethink landscape in a broad sense and reflect on notions of territory, identity and borders in contemporary societies.

Music has the wonderful power to evoke moods and emotions, not only in a concert hall or on stage, but also in an art exhibition at a museum. As part of this workshop, school classes, accompanied by a musician, will create a sound installation. First, the students visit an exhibition at Mudam and discuss the works of art. What effect does the artistic space have on them? What kind of music corresponds to the image or sculpture? Afterwards, the participants carry out a sound research at the Philharmonie, using musical instruments, objects, voices or digital sound creation. The resulting sounds and music are then recorded. Finally, all of these takes will become a sound installation at Mudam, so that they can be heard and experienced by all the visitors of the museum.
