After London and Oslo, and before being presented in Beijing, China Power Station comes to Mudam Luxembourg. Reflecting the vitality of the Chinese art scene on an international level, China Power Station: Part III is aimed at linking the generation of Chinese artists that emerged during the 1980s with a new generation of artists that has appeared on the international art scene since 2000. Unlike their elders, who mostly began their careers in the West, these artists have decided to stay in China in order to witness the profound social, political and economic changes the country is going through and be actively involved in them.
The exhibition at Mudam covers the problems linked with the evolution of urban space, the historical and contemporary situation in China, as well as everyday spaces. Several of the works presented in China
Power Station: Part III reflect on the relationships between modernity and tradition, illustrating the notion
of “mondialité” used by writer Edouard Glissant, to show the new challenges linked simultaneously to the local and the global. In response to the economic and urban boom that China is experiencing, the artists presented here also demonstrate a particular interest in the question of memory and recording these changes.
