An exploration of an old medium. In this workshop, we go back in time to rediscover the world of magnetic music. Magnetic tapes will be our canvas for music. Record interesting sounds from our environment using tape recorders, edit and compile the recordings, and create your personalised tape loops using a variety of tools, such as rhythmic soundscapes, experimental electronic sounds or spoken words: the possibilities are infinite. In addition, we will delve into Delia Derbyshire’s groundbreaking work when she was employed at the BBC, before the time of cassette tapes and Walkmans that would later come to be associated with youth culture. We will also explore the world of magnetic tape data.
