As part of the opening of her exhibition and the launch of the publication in two volumes that accompanies it, Tacita Dean brings together three extraordinary people for a unique conversation.

Julie Mehretu (b. 1970, Addis Ababa) and Luchita Hurtado (b. 1920, Caracas – d. 2020, Santa Monica) are the subjects of the 16mm film One Hundred and Fifty Years of Painting in which the two painters, filmed in conversation in Hurtado’s apartment, discuss life, death, motherhood and painting.

Also present in the film is the American artist Matt Mullican (b. 1951, Santa Monica), Luchita Hurtado’s son who, together with his brother John, now represents her estate.

Art historian Briony Fer (University College London) will moderate the artists’ conversation. She has written the catalogue essay for the volume on The Dante Project, a ballet created in collaboration with the choreographer Wayne McGregor and the composer Thomas Adès.

A limited number of publication Tacita Dean (Mudam Luxembourg, Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther und Franz König, 2022), signed by the artist, can already be ordered at mudamstore.com.
