Freigeister. Fragments of an art scene in Luxembourg

In conjunction with Luxembourg Art Week, Mudam is hosting a programme of performances by artists taking part in the Freigeister exhibition, some of whom will have participating guests.

The performance piece Forever Immigrant (Tattoo) is a reflection on immigration and the ‘permanent uncertainties’ that accompany it. It is an extension of a work Marco Godinho presented across the world in 2012, based on a rubber stamp carrying the words ‘Forever Immigrant’. Here, the same motif – a circle on the scale of the artist's thumb – is reproduced in the form of a personalised tattoo for each individual and tattooed directly onto those who wish to receive it. In so doing, they become members of a community of ‘forever immigrants’. They will receive a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.

Marco Godinho (b. 1978, Salvaterra de Magos, Portugal) has held solo exhibitions at Le Parvis, Tarbes (2019), MAMAC – Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain, Nice (2016) and the Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’Art Contemporain, Luxembourg (2013). In 2019 he represented Luxembourg at the 58th Venice Biennale. He lives and works in Luxembourg and Paris.
