While technological gimmicks have taken their place in everyday life for a while now, accompanied by an unspeakable speed of progress, it is important to question precisely what is happening in the black box and its impact on society. Explicitly, the continuation of colonialism, discrimination against marginalised groups and the perpetuation of a heteronormative image of society.

As part of the exhibition Radical Software: Women, Art & Computing 1960–1991, Sylvia Eckermann and Viviane Kübler talk about the similarities between their practices.

While Eckermann’s years of artistic and research practice deal with horizontal working structures in the real and digital world and the accompanying strategies for involving the audience in these, Kübler locates the origins of these working structures in the history of programming, hacking and queer-feminist protests. In this context, the infrastructure as well as the constitution of projects open up possibilities.

In extension, the discourse will revolve around the hybrid nature of space and time in the (post)digital age. This potential can lead to moments of disruption and irritation as well as be used to decipher and decode narratives and infrastructures. In this particular disclosure lies the potential of regaining agency.
