During summer 2021, words resonate at Mudam. Mudam Summer Project – More Spoken Words – revolves around words, poetry, slam and music, and pays homage to Su-Mei Tse's ink fountain, the iconic artwork that gives the project its name. Mudam invited Géisskan Kollektiv and LAGERKULTUR, two young Luxembourgish collectives, to invent an original programme for the summer season. Meeting every Wednesday for an evening flooded with words (Géisskan Kollektiv) and sounds (LAGERKULTUR):
18h00–20h00: Géisskan Kollektiv – poetry, slam and words
20h00–22h00: LAGERKULTUR – energy, fatigue and resonance

"Géisskan Kollektiv" floods Mudam and its surroundings with spoken and written words by offering a programme, that mixes epic skirmishes, combats of spoken words and sharp battles. “Géisskan” means "watering can” in Luxembourgish, symbolizing the gesture of cherishing and caring for a plant. The aim of the collective is to encourage young people to take over the stage with their texts, thoughts and poems and to offer them a chance to express themselves. Géisskan’s Poetry Slam finally makes its way into the museum, but not to retire or to settle down, but as a resilient form of performance art & pop culture in times of a global pandemic. Like the work of Su-Mei Tse, words flow endlessly during the summer at Mudam.

Detailed programme:

Hip Hop Workshop with Skibi
Ever wanted to know how to write a 16-bars to beat? Skibi will teach you all about technique, flow and how to stay cool on stage!

04.08.2021
Géisskan’s Classic “Poetry Slam Battle”
A poetry slam battle by Geisskan: funky beats, a DJ, a public that goes crazy and can decide who is the winner.

11.08.2021
Powerpoint karaoke by Géisskan
Invented by poetry slam moderators around the world, this amazingly burlesque and funny evening assigns a slammer with a powerpoint presentation, that the person has never seen before. The public gets to decide who made the most convincing speech presenting an unknown topic from an unknown presentation.

18.08.2021
Bad-Taste-Slam
Only bad texts, texts, that even we thought were too bad to perform, texts that should have never seen the light of day, or be performed on scene. A look behind the writer’s curtain, and inside the world of manuscripts that are simply too bad to be read on stage. Public can interactively decide... who is... the worst.

25.08.2021
Dead or Alive Event: special guest William Kentridge with local actors
Dead or Alive is a slam-derivate in which actors read texts from poets of their choice, either dead or alive, including the public through an interactive quiz. William Kentridge’s texts will be featured too as a special easter egg.

Géisskan Kollektiv
In the 2010’s, Luxembourg’s poetry slam scene was yet to be discovered. Some events inviting German and French all-star slammers to Luxembourg existed, but the local scene was rather small and scattered to events abroad. This changed in 2015,when a few friends in Luxembourg founded the “Géisskan Kollektiv”. Géisskan in Luxembourgish means “watering can” and is a metaphorical odd swap to Luxembourg’s watering can politics and stands for cherishing and caring for a small plant. The goal of the collective is to bring as many young people on stage with their texts, thoughts and poems and to offer them a chance to perform. Over the years, more than 50 young local writers have performed at poetry slam events of the collective. It is a mix of epic word skirmish, spoken word duel and bar spitting battles. After many successful poetry slam events at Food For Your Senses, Rotondes, Abbaye Neumünster or their own pop-up productions, Géisskan’s poetry slam finally makes its way into the museum, but not to retire or to settle down, but as a resilient form of performance art & pop culture in times of global pandemic.
