The Freigeister exhibition is the result of a collaborative process which, in the preparatory phase, involved a series of discussion days between artists, curators and outside experts. Their remit was to reflect on the most significant issues affecting Luxembourg today, such as borders, migration, languages, living together and the development of our country.

Mudam would like to continue this discussion platform by involving the public. From 8 January to 26 February 2022, each Saturday morning you are invited to join experts from a variety of fields – artists, researchers, writers, architects, sociologists and representatives of institutions and associations – to discuss some of the key themes reflecting the complex reality of Luxembourg today, how the country is changing and its future prospects.

Each Discussion Platform – Freigeister begins with a presentation of their work by the artist in person, followed by a presentation on the chosen topic by a guest expert. These presentations are followed by a moment of convivial discussion around a breakfast with the public and the speakers of the "Freigeister Alphabet" project.

Le chant de la sirène d’une Europe recalibrée par Nathalie Roelens (professeure de théorie littéraire et directrice de l'Institut d'Études Romanes, Médias et Arts à l'Université du Luxembourg)

L’imaginaire de la forteresse et de la Mélusine propre au Luxembourg se voit reconfiguré par la nouvelle position du pays au sein d’un monde en mutation. Ce pays, allégorie d’une vieille Europe soumise à un triple rétrécissement – géographique, moral et symbolique –, trouve pourtant un nouvel élan sous l’impulsion d’artistes dont les travaux retentissent au-delà des frontières et donnent des ailes à un imaginaire figé et suranné.
Nathalie Roelens est professeure de théorie littéraire et directrice de l’Institut d’Etudes romanes : textes, images, cultures à l’Université du Luxembourg. Ses travaux récents s’inscrivent dans le domaine des rapports entre texte et image, de la géocritique et de la sémiotique urbaine. Elle est membre du comité exécutif de l’Association IAWIS/AIERTI dont elle vient d’organiser le 12^ème congrès mondial : « L’eau et la mer dans les textes et les images » (voir waterandsea2021.uni.lu). Elle co-anime également un séminaire au collège des Bernardins (Paris) (voir collegedesbernardins.fr).
Marco Godinho (1978, Salvaterra de Magos, Portugal) a présenté des expositions personnelles au Parvis – Centre d’art contemporain à Tarbes (2019), à la Fonderie Darling à Montréal (2018), au MAMAC – Musée d’art moderne et contemporain de Nice (2016), au MNAC – Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea do Chiado à Lisbonne (2015), au Museo Universitario Universidad de Antioquia, Medellín et au Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’Art Contemporain à Luxembourg (2013). En 2019, il a représenté le Luxembourg à la 58e Biennale de Venise. Il vit et travaille à Luxembourg et à Paris.
