The third session of our Creative Encounters will focus on the artwork Lake (2006) by Masaya Chiba. This workshop will explore haunting landscapes, memory, and atmospheric mood, through watercolours and group assembly.
In this session, participants will be invited to create small watercolour ‘emotional landscapes’, each inspired by a different feeling (for instance sadness, anger, joy or melancholy). Using simple watercolour techniques, such as soft gradients, blurred edges, light outlines, and the use of empty space, participants will explore how colour and atmosphere can express emotion. We will focus on intuition and play rather than perfect painting, to emulate Chiba’s quiet, layered paintings and his way of creating open, contemplative spaces.
At the end, everyone’s small landscapes will be arranged together to form a large, shared ‘Emotional Panorama’. This collective piece will bring together many moods and impressions, echoing Chiba’s serene, atmospheric way of working.
As this workshop is part of a series, participants are invited to also participate in the other sessions on 22.03 and 26.04 to discover different artworks and painting techniques.
