Close to the museum, on the esplanade of the Park Dräi Eechelen, opposite the Ville Haute, Mudam will present the iconic artwork The Living Pyramid (2015) by American artist Agnes Denes (1931, Budapest), a pioneering figure of ecological and environmental art. Conceived as a monumental sculpture with a natural life cycle, The Living Pyramid takes the form of a 9-metre-high pyramid on which grow more than two thousand flowering plants selected by the artist from among the local flora. Denes originally created the work for the Socrates Sculpture Park in New York and has reproduced it for several other occasions, including documenta 14, held in Kassel, Germany in 2017. This new presentation of The Living Pyramid is augmented by an audience participation project, also imagined by Denes. In the months leading up to the exhibition, participants are invited to complete a questionnaire asking them to consider the meaning of life. Their responses will be gathered in a time capsule, to be buried near the pyramid and opened in thousand years.

The Living Pyramid ist als monumentale Skulptur mit einem natürlichen Lebenszyklus konzipiert und hat die Form einer neun Meter hohen Pyramide, auf der mehr als zwei Millionen Blütenpflanzen wachsen, die die Künstlerin aus der lokalen Flora ausgewählt hat. Denes schuf das Werk ursprünglich für den Socrates Sculpture Park in New York und hat es bei verschiedenen anderen Gelegenheiten reproduziert, unter anderem 2017 auf der documenta 14 in Kassel. Die neue Präsentation von The Living Pyramid wird durch ein ebenfalls von Denes konzipiertes Projekt der Publikumsbeteiligung ergänzt. In den Monaten vor der Ausstellung werden die Besucher:innen gebeten, einen Fragebogen auszufüllen, der sie zum Nachdenken über den Sinn des Lebens einlädt. Ihre Antworten werden in einer Zeitkapsel gesammelt, die neben der Pyramide vergraben und nach tausend Jahren geöffnet werden soll.

À proximité immédiate du musée, sur l’esplanade du Park Dräi Eechelen qui fait face à la Ville Haute, le Mudam présente l’oeuvre emblématique The Living Pyramid (2015) de l’artiste américaine Agnes Denes (1931, Budapest), figure pionnière de l’art écologique et environnemental. Conçue comme une sculpture monumentale dotée d’un cycle de vie naturel, The Living Pyramid prend la forme d’une pyramide de neuf mètres de haut sur laquelle poussent plus de 2000 plantes à fleur sélectionnées par l’artiste parmi la flore locale. Agnes Denes a initialement créé cette oeuvre pour le Socrates Sculpture Park à New York et l’a reproduite à plusieurs autres occasions, parmi lesquelles la documenta 14 à Cassel, en 2017. Cette nouvelle présentation de The Living Pyramid est accompagnée d’un projet participatif imaginé par Agnes Denes : dans les mois qui précèdent l’exposition, les personnes qui le souhaitent sont invitées à répondre à un questionnaire les interrogeant sur le sens de l’existence. Leurs réponses seront rassemblées dans une time capsule enterrée à proximité de la pyramide et destinée à être ouverte dans 1000 ans.
