This photo by Anja Niedringhaus is my coup de cœur at Clearstream because I think it is very much in keeping with the times and the story behind the image really touches me. Throughout her career, Pulitzer Prize winner Anja Niedringhaus (1965–2014) took photographs in conflict zones around the world that convey complex stories in a single image. She dedicated her life to documenting humanity’s most disturbing stories from the frontlines of conflict. In 2009 she documented life during the war in Gaza, especially the lives of children. Today Gaza is at war again and the photographs remind us that regardless of one’s position, children are the last people who should suffer from war. Niedringhaus was fatally shot while working in Afghanistan in 2014.
