Žilvinas Kempinas
The work of Žilvinas Kempinas (b. 1969, Plungė) draws upon his research into the kinetic and optical art of the 60s. His sculptures employ lightweight, magnetic tapes to produce sculptures that appear to defy the laws of gravity. For Lemniscate the artist uses two electric fans that are positioned to produce the effect of a trace or line floating in space. Using simple, economic means, the sculpture plays with the phenomena of perception, as the ribbon appears to move in and out of sight.
