Rémy Zaugg
Le Monde voit (The world sees) (1993–2000) by Rémy Zaugg (b. 1943, Courgenay – d. 2005, Basel) is a series of fifteen typographical paintings. Varying in size, each work features a short phrase in French on subjects that include perception, seeing and blindness. This poetic meditation of these phrases is apparently at odds with the uniformity of the works, which are made on aluminium, with the same sans-serif font, screen printed onto a colour background. The effects of colour on perception is recurrent within Zaugg's work, resonating with the artist's belief that without perception there can be no work of art.
