Miguel Branco

Miguel Branco’s (b. 1963, Castelo Branco, Portugal) sculptures evoke an enigmatic universe, both in their form and meaning. Of characteristically small dimensions, the works force the beholder to look closely and enter into a dialogue. Their ambiguous presence, which offers no narrative, entertains and unnerves at the same time. His sculptures, which are formed with Fimo modelling clay around a wire and wooden core, also rekindle visual fragments from our collective culture. Surrealism, symbolism, pop culture and natural history are intertwined and make for a surprising composition of disquieting naturalism.
