Miguel Ângelo Rocha
Miguel Ângelo Rocha’s (b. 1964, Lisbon) sculptures employ a wide variety of materials, many of which are characterised by their fragility such as cardboard, bamboo, feather, stone, rice paper amongst others. This sculpture takes the form of a three-dimensional drawing in space. Dynamic, red lines appear to an extend from an object at the base of the sculpture. Drawn in the form of a rough sketch, appearing unconscious and random, they invade the space in an extensive composition. Appearing to spring off the gallery floor or bounce against the walls, it reverberates and echoes, appropriating the space to appear like a giant, automatic drawing.
