Marina Abramović

The installation Video Portrait Gallery by Marina Abramović (b. 1946, Belgrade) is composed of videos documenting fourteen works that were performed in public between 1975 and 1988. The selection of works, most of which show the artist's face in close-up, offer an alternative portrait of the artist, testifying to the radical nature of her research. This iteration expands upon an initial ensemble of twelve videos produced in 1997. Seen together they reflect the artist's approach to exploring her own physical and psychic limits through the medium of performance over the past forty-five years in works that are demanding, often political and always engaged with moral and ethical issues.
