Lutz & Guggisberg
The triptych, Galaxy Evolution Melody (2012) uses the formal vocabulary of modernist abstraction in its interplay of simple geometric forms and blocks of colour. These forms are composed of scrap material and everyday objects – plates, small balls, rods, mesh – that Andres Lutz (b. 1968, Wettingen) and Anders Guggisberg (b. 1966, Biel) found in their studio. Although the choreography of these elements may appear random, in fact it is calculated with great precision from one screen to another. The artists thus use simple materials to orchestrate a synchronised visual composition that serves – as the title implies – as both an allegory of the cosmos and a repurposing of traditional forms of art.
