Jonathan Horowitz

The multimedia artist Jonathan Horowitz (1966) explores and analyses the image transmitted to us by our society through its politics, its mediatised people, its consumerism, and its wars, too. He works mainly with film sequences, and excerpts from television programmes and various other media.

The Soul of Tammi Terrell establishes a parallel between life – and death – and fiction. Tammi Terrell, who died at the age of 24 from a brain tumour, appears on a monitor recording Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, with Marvin Gaye. On the other screen, Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts sing the same song in the movie Stepmom, in which Sarandon happens to play a character who dies of cancer.
