Cy Twombly

Cy Twombly's (b. 1928, Lexington – d. 2011, Rome) work is characterised by the spontaneity of the line, that lies somewhere between drawing and graphic notation. The expressive mark making of Natural History Part II: Some Trees of Italy (1975–1976) draws associations with lyrical notation.
