Bruce Nauman (1941) was a pioneer of new media in the Sixties and has since joyfully blended art video, performance and sculpture. The artist has always been concerned with the temporal structure and the physical dimension of the artistic process. In Setting a Good Corner he embarks on a task that is circumscribed by pragmatism and which consists of extending a fence on his ranch in New Mexico. He slowly and fastidiously constructs his work with the aim of doing a good job.

Translated through video, the artwork ends with the completion of the fence. The rough mode of production that he shows seems to indicate that artistic conception is more closely related to daily and repetitive hard labour than to a heroic act of creation. Bruce Nauman’s investigative attitude, which is both nonchalant and impersonal, as well as his disciplined approach underpin the artist’s intention, inspiration and practice.
