Andrea Blum
With gardens + fountains + summer café, Andrea Blum (b. 1950, New York) is reactivating a work originally conceived in 2005 for the Italian Pavilion at the 51st Venice Biennale. This modular piece was first exhibited as part of Eldorado,Mudam’s 2006 inaugural exhibition, before being installed outside the museum. The perforated steel benches invite visitors to sit or lie down, alone or with others, while the water fountains provide refreshment. Intersecting visual arts, architecture, design and the world of gardens, the work can also accommodate a café in the summertime. A keen observer of psychological and social behaviour, Andrea Blum has created a discreet, anti-monumental environment that is both functional and utopian. By situating the piece somewhere between museum art and public art, she encourages visitors to explore new uses and ways of sharing.
